Bulgaria

Bulgaria, beyond the capital's shadow

Plovdiv old-town lanes, Rila mountain retreats, Black Sea fishing coves — a land richer than its guidebook pages.

Bulgaria carries far more depth than Sofia’s boulevards suggest. Plovdiv’s cobbled backstreets wind past revival-era houses now home to small galleries and quiet wine bars. Inland, the Rila range holds its own hush — pine-covered slopes, stone monasteries, and paths walked by monks for centuries. Along the Black Sea, small fishing coves keep a pace set by nets and tides rather than clocks. The Rhodope hills roll on in soft folds, home to villages where old songs and crafts still pass from hand to hand. Our team searches for Bulgarian hosts rooted in these overlooked places — Plovdiv artists who open their studios, Rila caretakers who know every mountain trail, Black Sea fishermen tied to their coastal villages, keepers of ancient monasteries and highland pastures. Frankenbridge is currently building its Bulgaria collection. New boutique tours and genuine local experiences will be added as partners pass our review.
